With over 130 years of tradition, more than one million members admitted since its founding, a vast array of service work, a historic National Headquarters building with extraordinary collections and countless activities taking place locally, nationally and globally, there is much to learn about the Daughters of the American Revolution. The organization was founded in 1890 with the mission of promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism. These timeless, overarching principles keep the DAR strong and vitally relevant in this ever-changing world.
Membership
More than two centuries ago, American colonists sacrificed their lives and fortunes to gain independence from the British Crown, leaving a legacy for the American people. By joining the DAR, you can help preserve that legacy by supporting the National Society's efforts to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and secure America’s future through better education for children.
In addition to military service, you are eligible if your ancestor supported the cause in any way, such as providing food, supplies, or medical aid. To determine eligibility, you must collect documents for yourself, your parents, grandparents, and possibly great-grandparents.
The Pennsylvania State Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (PSSDAR), has 94 chapters, and volunteers are available to assist you with your research if needed.
